South Africa
South African wine has only begun to attract international attention
since the ending of Apartheid. Although progress has been rapid in the
last few years, many of the wines still show the effects of years, of isolation from much of
of the wine world. A number of the wines, particularly the reds could do
with more fruitiness, and it improves as the years go by.
Grapes include:
- Chardonnay
- Chenin Blanc
- Colombard
- Muscat
- Riesling
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Cabernet Franc
- Merlot
- Pinotage
- Pinot Noir
